I'm going to have to work on the pace per mile thing for next time--I felt like I got to race day without really knowing what my pace felt like...Alicia Hudelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08920162593427542080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-40528304100990660172012-11-19T11:12:12.203-08:002012-11-19T11:12:12.203-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Alicia Hudelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08920162593427542080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-34096470053721189222012-11-13T06:06:00.126-08:002012-11-13T06:06:00.126-08:00I just came over from Katie's blog (I'm a ...I just came over from Katie's blog (I'm a Katie too!). VERY interesting stuff...the mental side of marathoning. I am one that believes that people often set their bars too low instead of aiming higher. I recently have run a 3:15 and 3:12, times I never thought possible. The 3:15 was the first time I went after a specific time. One thing I did was really start thinking about/focusing on the pace per mile number. Really thinking about it often and cementing it in my brain. I think it helped me to become familiar enough with it to feel like I owned it, and, sure enough, I got it on race day (this was after not doing as well as I'd like to in training). My point it, yes, I think the mind plays a huge role in performance race day. Thanks for giving me food of thought today!Katie Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17627581154880689703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-19864894345869441652012-10-30T17:23:10.153-07:002012-10-30T17:23:10.153-07:00Is there a road marathon in your future, John...? ...Is there a road marathon in your future, John...? At least it would only take you about 5 minutes to recover from it, the way you do all the 100s.Alicia Hudelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08920162593427542080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-30372801368049586752012-10-30T17:22:38.037-07:002012-10-30T17:22:38.037-07:00Hey thanks Katie! I think I have deduced from Tracy's blog that you just ran 3:11--if I am right, congratulations, I can't even imagine the pain of going 5 minutes faster! But it's really reassuring to hear that you don't find those first few miles easy.Alicia Hudelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08920162593427542080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-87460718230132587732012-10-30T16:16:07.968-07:002012-10-30T16:16:07.968-07:00Nice job Alicia! Oh, and I never find any part of the marathon easy, not even the first few miles.Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06399320835082431959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4310602445997472344.post-70385673936853612552012-10-26T18:39:49.614-07:002012-10-26T18:39:49.614-07:00That was an interesting race report. The mental piece obviously played a huge part in it. Great read- has got me thinking (Oh-no). Thanks for sharing. John W. Then I think I probably would have burnt out around the 10k mark trying to keep up with your pace...but who knows! I remember wanting to beat May-Britt Hansen's PR of 3:20 a couple of years ago and having to drop out because it was just too fast. I can't help thinking - what if this Tracy girl's PR had been 3:10 :)? You need to get on her case about running faster so you'll have something better to shoot for! Seriously amazing race. I am so happy everything went as planned - what a runner's dream!sea legs girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14782712411873234071noreply@blogger.com
